TryMyUI review

August 3, 2010 WAH job reviews

I have been asked about TryMyUI several times. Since they list some of the highest paying jobs on the Amazon Mechanical Turk site, it’s no surprise that people are asking if they’re legit. [...]

Yes, they’re legit; but they’re extremely picky. Both in who they will take for a job, and what they will accept as a done job. To even be able to take a job from them, you must fit certain age, computer skill, and location requirements (and 98% of the time, I don’t fit). And even once you manage to get a job from them, they may or may not accept what you do. If they accept, you did about 5 minutes of work for $5 or $10 (the hardest part for me is getting the kids to be quiet for 5 minutes – my mic picks them up in the background); if not, you wasted 5 minutes, and they’ll tell you how to do it better next time. So, although it does seem kind of wrong that you can do everything they ask and they can just go “nah, not good enough” and not pay you anything, it is definitely worth giving them a shot.

To increase your chances of your work being accepted, say every single thought you have about the page/ui you are trying. Even if you’re just saying what you’re doing, they want to hear every thought.

    Hi

I recently signed up to TryMyUi and have so far done (and passed) the qualification test and a real review of a site.

It definitely helps if you’re very au fait with the web, and you need to talk pretty much constantly, which could be daunting for someone faced with a 20 minute review. That said, once you’re in the mindset of the “scenario” they’ve given you, it’s pretty much just speaking your mind as you’re clicking around.

My “real” site review was scored and accepted in a couple of hours, so it doesn’t take long. I did it through Amazon Mechanical Turk and my payment came through there instantly.

It’s fairly simple work for good money, so if you’re the right type of person it’s definitely worth a shot.
