Online life and real life
I’ve heard of people losing their jobs for things they posted online before. However it never really seemed real to me until it almost happened to a friend of mine.
I’ve never tried to separate my online and real lives. More than once I’ve had strangers yell out “hey s0nicfreak!” or ask me if I’m s0nicfreak in person. I have family members that call me s0nicfreak in person. I’ve always been s0nicfreak; it has never been just a screenname.
As a professional blogger, I think it is important to do this. People want to know that you’re a real person just like they are, that your blog is real and you’re not just trying to sell them something. Because of this, we must speak up against things like what BestBuy did. Even if we don’t agree with what Brian was saying in his video (heck, I am guilty of being one of the “want an iphone no matter what” type of people), they have to know it is not ok to fire someone for exercising his right to free speech on the internet!
